Overview

Plecanatide is a synthetic analog of uroguanylin, a natural human peptide, which activates guanylate cyclase-C on the luminal surface of intestinal epithelial cells to stimulate cGMP production, leading to increased intestinal fluid secretion and transit. It is used in the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C).
