Overview

Furosemide is a high-ceiling diuretic of the class of sulfonamide loop diuretics, used primarily to treat fluid build-up due to heart failure, liver scarring, or kidney disease. It functions by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, thereby increasing the excretion of sodium, water, and other ions.
